Berridale Store Closing 24th July 2023. Relocating to Japan.

After much soul searching, we are making the lifestyle decision to move our store, retail and rental, back to where it really began, Furano and Tomamu in Hokkaido, Japan. A big thank you to all who patronised us here in Berridale. We loved sharing our knowledge and hearing your stories. With Japan now having removed all impediments to inbound travel, we are inundated with demand for backcountry rental in Hokkaido. We will be based in our wonderful lodge in Tomamu, amongst the best backcountry powder skiing you’ll find anywhere in the world. This is not goodbye to our local customers, but more an invitation to come and experience for your self the joys of Hokkaido backcountry skiing. All contact details below.

Relocation Sale

As of today (10th July 2023), all retail stock will be 30-50% discount. We will also be selling 2022 model rental skis that are more oriented towards the Australian snowpack, that is, not powder skis! Contact us for details.

Rental Options

Alpine Backcountry has its roots in the mountains and wilderness of the NSW Snowy Mountains and we are very pleased to offer our comprehensive specialty backcountry and nordic ski rental and retail service to where it all began.

Our location is the Old Bakery, a classic bluestone building, in the Berridale shops. This unique and beautifully crafted stone building dates back to the days of the early pioneers of the Snowy Mountains and perfectly compliments our backcountry shop.

Please come and visit us on your way through or make a booking to reserve your equipment. I look forward to seeing you in the old bakery in Berridale.
